Topography & Climate
The location: 9°05´07,88” S/ 40°08´28,20”, northern
Brazil, 9° latitude, San Francisco Valley, Caatinga,
Sertao desert. The Sertao desert covers an immense
1,561,177km², or 18.3% of Brazil’s surface. The Caatinga
comprehends a 939,391 km² area, within the sertao
that becomes an oasis of vegetation once a year, in
the rainy season. The Sao Francisco River runs through
this vast desert and is fed by plentiful pure water
derived from the Serra da Canastra. This pure water
is then used for our irrigation.
The vineyards are located 75km from nearest town (Petrolina),
800km from the coast (Recife), 350-400m above sea
level.
Soil
The Vineyard’s soil is composed of rocky
quartz, chalk and sand providing excellent drainage.
The Petit Verdot grape is planted mainly on rocks,
while the other varieties are planted on sandier soils.
Climate
Weather typical of the semi-arid region,
with generous temperature gap between day and night.
Rain concentrated in the months of February and March,
immediately followed by sunshine.
